A number of historic items can be found in drawers in the new extension, St Benedict’s and St Margaret’s where we will be heading later, but also beneath the organ there are two cabinets that illuminate as you approach. In the right hand cabinet there is the original organ console. The first organist was Richard Sharp, who initialled the middle C on the top register “R#.” In the left cabinet is the original Authorised King James Bible. These were published in 1611 and issued to every parish, this one dates from 1613 . Also, there is a replica of a 13th century burse. The actual surviving, but faded, burse, a very early example of medieval embroidery, can be seen in a drawer in St Benedict’s. An external link which tells you more about this is here.
